Gail Collins is known for her fierce and quick-witted New York Times column and as the author of many books, including When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present. Feminist extraordinaire Gloria Steinem, has had a hand in creating everything from New York Magazine and Ms. Magazine to dozens of organizations and a handful of best-selling books. Lizz Winstead, creator of The Daily Show, has just released Lizz Free or Die.

The Neighborhood School is a local public elementary school in danger of losing its library due to drastic budget cuts. Your support of this event will help keep the library as a necessary resource for neighborhood children.

"Wax Museum" Gloria

No, Gloria's not joining the ranks at Madame Tussaud's! She was the subject of a history project in which 11-year old Ashley from Arizona portrayed Gloria in her school's "Wax Museum". She researched Gloria, created a presentation about Gloria, dressed like Gloria, and when a button was pressed to "activate" her, she even talked like Gloria! We think Ashley did a really great job so we wanted to share some photos of her work!

A couple weeks ago, Gloria sat down with Esmé E. Deprez to talk about Occupy Wall Street and the way gender plays a role in finances and power:

For Gloria Steinem, the international conversation that the Occupy Wall Street protests sparked about economic inequality is, at its heart, about gender.

Start with the thousands of dollars in student loans that saddle the average U.S. college graduate. Women “are paid unequally -- so they are going to have a harder time paying back that debt,” Steinem, the 77-year-old feminist who helped start the women’s rights movement with the publication of Ms. Magazine nearly 40 years ago, said in an interview at Bloomberg News’ New York bureau. “It’s outrageous because they are kind of indentured when they graduate.”
